Riddles, Riddles

Good afternoon, Chos..  You are brillant!  Your answers were outstanding.  I had so much fun reading your ideas!

Updated:  Oops.   I updated the original post, and all 88 of your responses to the riddles copied over to this post.  Sorry about that..  But, hey...  You had terrific answers, and reading them again is kind of fun!

1.  A man builds a house in a rectangular shape.  All sides have southern exposure.  A big, huge bear walks by the house.  What color is the bear?  Why?  Of course, the bear is a white polar bear.  The house is at the North Pole.

2.  How many birthdays does an average man have?  The average man is only born one (1) time even though he may celebrate this day every year..

3.  What unusual property do the words:  Flour, Tern and Thirsty   have in common?  Remove 1 letter from each word and you have:  Four, Ten and Thirty.

4.  A man is trapped on an island, surrounded by water and miles away from land.   He cannot swim.  Then suddenly one day he escapes.  He uses no tools.  How does he escape?  The water freezes and he walks to the nearest land mass.  (I love your ideas about hitching rides with dolphins and other sea life.  So very creative!)

5.  What type of phobia might a vampire have?  A vampire may have more than one phobia:  Alliumphobia--afraid of garlic and/or heliophobia--fear of sunlight.

Congrats to Heat2010 and MusicMaker25.

Strange Stone Decoded???

Wow.  You have some interesting and creative answers to what you thought this stone was.  Thank you for all your answers.

The stone is known as the Coligny Calendar, and was used around 200AD by people who spoke a combination of Latin and Gaulish languages. Most luni-solar calendars contained 355 days. Months with 30 days were marked "lucky" and months with 29 days were "unlucky". Every 2 1/2 years, the astronomers would add a 13th month to make the solar part match the lunar part.

Congrats to Shockz for correctly identifying the stone.

Arctic Animals

The past week has been very busy, but I didn't forget about this contest..  Here are the answers to the Arctic questions:

Arctic ground squirrels live in dens and are the only Arctic animal to hibernate.
Lemmings look like furry, fat hamsters.
A wolverines looks like a small bear, but is a member of the weasel family.
Caribou are members of the deer family and are covered in a thick coat of hollow hair.
Narwhals live in the Arctic Ocean, and have long ivory tasks.
Cottongrass, as well as other plants, are used to make wicks for oil lamps.

Congrats to all of you for a job well done. I hope that you learned something about the Arctic. Sweetgirl25, Bobscowsgomoomoo, Choobaca55 and Vasa12345 taught me some new things. Thanks!

What should be the next topic?
